Definition of Women Empowerment
The topic of empowerment and especially women or female empowerment is as popular as it is confusing. The definition of empowerment is simple; giving power to someone who does not possess or is not permitted to express it.
Various forms of exploitation of women like sexual crimes, dowry, deprivation of political or economic rights, lack of education etc. necessitate a system and policy of protective discrimination for women that gives them certain privileges and rights that can redress the inequality between women and men.
Oppression in Pakistan
In a society like Pakistan, there have been different ways which have been deliberately used to oppress women. Therefore, there is a need for education and killing of women to fulfil their true potential as human beings and vital part of human civilization.
We must strive to create an environment of respect and security and instill a sense of celebration of human diversity when it comes to gender, race, religion etc. We should strengthen each individual to create a cohesive and progressive society.
Western Influence
Most of the theories of empowerment appear from western, first world countries and thinker who feel that men have always strived to curb the political cultural and social rights of women in a systematic manner. This is termed as patriarchy. Therefore, women need to be given their fair share of opportunities in all spheres of life to reach a position of equality.
They cite the centuries of oppression in colonial or pre-colonial times, the inability of women to vote, lack of personal rights like abortion, work, etc. These theories are often based on the principles of political liberalism, equality of status and opportunities etc.
In particular, the feminist critique of social norms is vocal about such injustices. They often claim that men have used different ideologies and religion to assert dominance over women and subjugate them to a slave-like existence.
Different Meaning
However, the definition of empowerment is often different for different culture and people. For example, a devout Muslim woman may want to devote her energy to educating her children and build a home rather than join a call center. Another woman may want to cover herself and expose her physical attributes to the public.
The topic of empowerment has to be seen in the context of other issues like morality, life goals and priorities, belief systems etc. A feminist activist in New Delhi may want completely different things to a village girl in Meerut.
Therefore, it is important to intellectually examine the claims of such competing ideologies and verify their ambitions. For example, even though there is a call for ending sexual misconduct and crimes, there is increasing insistence on the objectification of women through entertainment industries, clothing and fashion brands.
A Colonial Tool
Interestingly, Liberalism and feminism were developed as important tools to justify colonialism and invasion of other countries which followed certain religions and traditional customs.
Therefore, these ideas were and are still used to destroy the traditional systems of family, tribe and community in various countries (especially the developing and underdeveloped) as a means to civilize the so-called backward and abused women in these lands. This seems to be a new form of imperialism of economic and intellectual dominance.
Often women's empowerment is dressed as a universalized blanket where one solution fits all women. However, it is problematic to generalize such thought systems as social, political, religious and economic fundamentals may differ completely from person to person and place to place.
Humor
The Oxford Dictionary defines humor as the faculty to perceive and enjoy what is ludicrous or amusing in a given situation. Humor is the faculty of intellect, a state of mind. Every man has a different temperament Some people are by nature serious.
They take life too seriously and look down upon people who try to laugh things off. There are others who are too frivolous. They never take life seriously and sail through life as if it were just a game of chess. The wisest of men cultivate a balanced attitude towards life and do not allow themselves to be swept away by the turbulent emotions.
If we read the biographies of some great men of letters and leaders of men, we learn that they were all blessed with a sense of humor.
One has just to pick up a book of P.G. Wodehouse when one is perplexed or tense and discover for oneself how a little diversion helps to relax. Above all, it makes one realize that one had been unnecessarily worrying and making a mountain of a molehill.
Latest research in the field of medicine has convinced the doctors that patients who are seriously ill, but have a sense of humor, have a better chance of survival than those who get into a state of depression, brood over their illness and yield to despair. Some hospitals in the West, have built special laughter rooms where they invite humorists to entertain the patients.
Students of English literature who have read plays of Shakespeare and Bernard Shaw, will agree that so-called fools in the plays of the former, like Gratiano and Falstaff, provide comic relief with their witty dialogues full of puns and fun.
Bernard Shaw was a craftsman of stringing words together in such a manner that he could preach and make a valid point through jokes. He very correctly observed that a man could safely say in jest what he could not say in earnest.
It has been truly said that good humor is the salt of life. Life becomes mundane and tiresome if there is not a good sprinkling of humor in it. Good humor is the surest sign of sanity in our life.
Life is a strange web of joys and sorrows. A man who always takes a pessimistic attitude can never enjoy life. He is a potential victim of high blood pressure, heart attack and other ailments.
On the other hand, if a man takes an optimistic view of life, he can sail through life with ease, disease free. One must remember that one who is always complaining, soon finds oneself alone. It is true that if you weep, you weep alone, but if you laugh, the whole world laughs with you.
Therefore, today when life has become so full of tension and stress, cultivating a sense of humor is the best preparation we can make in facing the conditions of life on earth. Indeed, humor is a great asset in life. It enables man to see the inconsistent side of life. Humor helps the national understanding and enjoyment of life.

The 21st century has been revolutionized by our dependence on technology and gadgets. From waking up to going to bed in the bight, we are constantly in use of one or the other appliances. The most important and crucial part of such a range of technological machines is our cell phone.
It can be said it is the latest addition for the human race with the potency increasing every day. The multifarious uses of cell phones and ever-advancing utilities that it provides are changing our interaction with machines.

Apart from this movement is also aided by accessible information regarding weather, traffic and availability of vehicles.
Cell phones have also made it easier to showcase our work and talents on a global scale and consequently, opportunities for work have increased manifold. Similarly, there is a constant stream of education, information, news and entertainment available in the palm of our hands.
Rise of Internet
With the rise of faster internet, connectivity has opened many options as far as multimedia including movies, games etc are concerned. In addition cell phones also provide a handheld ledger of all our important accounts from banking to insurance etc.
With the influx of digital economy and digital wallets, our dependence on the paper currency has also been greatly reduced. For all the above purposes, cell phones have also provided multitasking on the move so there is a considerable reduction of time and energy in ticking off all our daily commitments.
Downsides of Mobile Phones
However, all is not perfect when it comes to profuse use of cell phones. In fact, it can be a great source of distraction when it comes to everyday life. Constant use of cell phones can cause depression and adverse psychological effects, especially on young people.
It can also limit real social interaction and devalue an organic way of living. Use of cell phones while driving or walking has led to many accidents and mishaps.
Apart from being a distraction, cell phones are also dangerous in term of the radiations they emit and use. They can have long term negative impact like increased incidence f cancer like glioma, sleep disorder etc.
Mobile Radiations
In addition, one of the biggest negative when it comes to mobile technology is its overall impact on the environment with ever-increasing irradiation of natural ecology, plants and non-human animals. Overall, cell phones are of great value to present-day human civilization and an essential part of everyday life.
However, the addiction and overuse of cell phones need to be curtailed and the technological research needs to be focused on developing more environmentally sustainable forms of cell phones and mobile telephony.
