Things I Hate the Most

I hate to get up early in the morning and to go to school, particularly waking up and preparing for my examinations and then marching off to take them. My father persuades me to get up early and exercise.

In fact, he forces me to do so and I hate this very much. I hate to exercise and I would rather be in bed sleeping inside my warm blanket. I hate anyone disturbing me in the morning.

Another thing I hate is to sit for the examinations in school, particularly weekly tests and final examinations. Final examinations are very important as they decide whether we shall go to the next class or not.

I also hate when friends fight with each other. I like to see everyone friendly and happy with each other. When there is any kind of friction between people I begin to feel very uncomfortable and like to try to bring peace.

But people normally do not realize the value of proper behavior and spend a lot of time in senseless bickering and fighting. I dislike washing clothes too. I would much rather have someone else doing this for me.

I hate the soapy feeling that one gets on one’s hands as one washes clothes. The effect of handling soap and water is that the hands lose their moisture and this causes a lot of discomfort to me.

I like to have soft hands and washing clothes makes my hands rough and coarse. Making polite conversation with my parents, friends are also not my cup of tea. I can be cordial and pay them my regards but I dislike it if I am expected to spend a whole day with them.

I get terribly bored and this is a terrible feeling. I know that one should be more tolerant and try to adjust to things that don’t always tally with his expectations, but I somehow cannot help being the way I am and I continue to feel that way about the things that I dislike most.

Hard Work Pays Off

I have always been an average student in my class. This hurt my feelings and then I resolved that I shall study very hard and become a rank holder. I wanted to be placed among the first three at the end of each examination.

Since I have a strong will-power I worked hard all day long I paid great attention to all that the teachers taught in the class and also spent a lot of fruitful time in studying in the library.

At home too I would sit down at my study table for hours before going to play with my friends. I was confident of my position in the examinations. I managed to score high marks and to my delight, the class teacher announced my grade in the class.

While she went on reading out each student’s marks I sat with bated breath. I waited expectantly for my name and she saw my anxiety. She put an end to my impatience and informed us that I had topped in the class with the highest marks in all the subjects.

That day was indeed the beginning of a change in my life. A gold medal was awarded to me at the school annual day for my performance.

In fact, I got two medals-one for securing the highest marks and the other for a very commendable effort considering the fact that I have always been an average student.

As a walked up to the dais where the chief guest at the annual day was handing over the prizes and medals my heart swelled with pride. I glanced at my parents who were sitting among the audience and it filled me with warmth to see them smiling with delight at my achievement.

That memorable day has remained in my memory ever since that day and I now realize that one can achieve almost anything if he has the will and determination.

Although this incident occurred a year ago, I have not forgotten it and it shall continue to give me strength wherever I strive to achieve some feat that I otherwise may consider impossible.

Superstitions

Illiterate and weak-minded people all over the world often are a prey to superstitions. Their lives are ruled by them and they base their actions on the various superstitious beliefs.

Superstitious people can be called backward. They tend to interpret every phenomenon irrationally. They assess a happening illogically and even guide their actions on the basis of these beliefs.

Although most people know that superstitions are based on imagination and are nowhere close to the truth, but quite a few people are still guided by superstitions.

For example some common superstitions are : thirteen is an unlucky number; if a black cat crosses one’s path, some misfortune will befall the person whose path was crossed if one sneezes before beginning a new job, it shall not be completed without any problem, etc.

Once these events occur, it becomes difficult for the superstitious person to continue with his work. Superstitions and luck’ are closely associated. When a person watches two sparrows, it is believed that he will have abundant joy.

The howling of dogs, spilling of milk or salt, walking under a ladder, falling of a picture or mirror is associated with ill luck. There are many superstitions that Pakistanis cling to. These are ridiculous to a person who has a scientific outlook to life.

Men with such a bent of mind do not believe in fiction. They require proof and their view of events is always objective. They are not victims of ignorance. But now education and science have to a great extent enlightened man.

They have unraveled many mysteries and removed a number of superstitions. Even in other countries of the world, superstitions are believed in. For example, it is believed that if comets appear in the sky, they predict the emperor’s doom.

Another superstition is that if a person dies of drowning, some spirits await him. The difference is that Pakistan is still more given to superstitions while these are fast disappearing mostly in other countries except in a very few backward ones.

Superstitions can never been relied upon. An educated mind is never swayed by them. After all there is no logical connection between an owl’s hooting and the approaching calamity.

In short, a person can never progress in life if his approach to things is not objective. In fact, he should lead people out of ignorance into the light of belief and knowledge.

Hard Work is the Key to Success

There are some people in society who talk much more than they should. They are always ready to offer suggestions, advice and recommendations even when they are not asked to. No one wants to listen to them yet they continue to bore people with their never-ending chatter.

Such people do not think before they speak and often land themselves into unnecessary trouble. They love to indulge in talking all day and never getting down to doing any work at all.

The practical examples are our present-day political leaders. They make a lot of promises during election time but hardly keep them when they return to power. In fact one must do great things without promising them.

A man is required to do more work than talking because life passes by too fast and one has to accomplish a lot in one’s life. There have been men like Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal.

Mother Teresa who spoke much less than they performed. They spent a lot of time in planning their course of action that would bring peace and prosperity to the country. Mother Teresa spent many hours in silence but the work that she did for the poor was unmatched.

Such people who work more and talk less are very intense and sensible people. They weigh the actions logically. Their minds are always preoccupied with their thoughts and they never go around broadcasting their views to the whole world.

They do discuss matters with their friends and relations but they put their thoughts into actions as soon as they have talked about them. They do not indulge in gossip and they put all their energies into their work.

Such people are good examples of their juniors as they also inspire those who work with and under them. They remain silent but their work and achievements speak.
